[703] Bhikkhus, range in your own proper resort (gocara), your own ancestral domain. Bhikkhus, for those who range in their own proper resort, their own ancestral domain, Māra will not gain access, Māra will not gain a foothold. And what, bhikkhus, is a bhikkhu's proper resort, his own ancestral domain? It is these four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body (kāyānupassanā), ardent (ātāpī), clearly comprehending (sampajāno), mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world (abhijjhā-domanassa). He dwells contemplating … in feelings (vedanā) … in the mind (citta) … dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. This, bhikkhus, is a bhikkhu's proper resort, his own ancestral domain.
