[725] "And how, Sāriputta, is one of liberated mind? Here, Sāriputta, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent (ātāpī), clearly comprehending (sampajāno), mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world (abhijjhā-domanassa). As he dwells contemplating the body in the body, the mind (citta) becomes dispassionate and is liberated from the taints (āsava) through non-clinging. Regarding feelings (vedanā) … regarding the mind … he dwells contemplating dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. As he dwells contemplating dhammas in dhammas, the mind becomes dispassionate and is liberated from the taints through non-clinging. It is in this way, Sāriputta, that one is of liberated mind. It is because of having a liberated mind, Sāriputta, that I say one is 'a great man (mahāpurisa)'; because of not having a liberated mind, I do not say one is 'a great man.'"
