[779] "Brahmin, it is because the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) have not been developed and not been cultivated that, when the Tathāgata has attained final Nibbāna (parinibbuta), the true Dhamma (saddhamma) does not endure long. And, Brahmin, it is because the four establishments of mindfulness have been developed and cultivated that, when the Tathāgata has attained final Nibbāna, the true Dhamma endures long. Which four? Here, Brahmin, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body (kāyānupassanā), ardent, clearly comprehending, possessed of mindfulness, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. He dwells contemplating … in feelings (vedanā) … in the mind (citta) … dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, possessed of mindfulness, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. It is, Brahmin, because these four establishments of mindfulness have not been developed and not been cultivated that, when the Tathāgata has attained final Nibbāna, the true Dhamma does not endure long. And it is, Brahmin, because these four establishments of mindfulness have been developed and cultivated that, when the Tathāgata has attained final Nibbāna, the true Dhamma endures long."
