Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 819

[819] Setting at Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, I will teach the origin and the passing away of the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). Listen to that. "And what, bhikkhus, is the origin of the body? With the origin of nutriment (āhāra) there is the origin of the body; with the cessation of nutriment there is the passing away of the body. With the origin of contact (phassa) there is the origin of feelings (vedanā); with the cessation of contact there is the passing away of feelings. With the origin of name-and-form (nāmarūpa) there is the origin of the mind (citta); with the cessation of name-and-form there is the passing away of the mind. With the origin of attention (manasikāra) there is the origin of dhammas; with the cessation of attention there is the passing away of dhammas."
