[859] And what, bhikkhus, is the faculty of faith (saddhindriya)? Here, bhikkhus, a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) has faith; he places faith in the awakening (bodhi) of the Tathāgata thus: 'That Blessed One is indeed an arahant, perfectly self-awakened, accomplished in true knowledge and conduct, well-gone, knower of the world, unsurpassed trainer of persons to be tamed, teacher of devas and humans, awakened, blessed.' This, bhikkhus, is called the faculty of faith.
