[863] And what, bhikkhus, is the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya)? Here, bhikkhus, a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) is wise; he is endowed with wisdom directed to arising and passing away, which is noble and penetrative, leading rightly to the destruction of suffering (dukkha). This, bhikkhus, is called the faculty of wisdom. These, bhikkhus, are the five faculties (indriya).
