[887] Bhikkhus, with the completeness and fulfillment of these five faculties (indriya), one is an arahant (arahaṃ); with faculties softer than those, one is an attainer of final Nibbāna in the interval (antarāparinibbāyī); with faculties softer than those, one is an attainer of final Nibbāna upon landing (upahaccaparinibbāyī); with faculties softer than those, one is an attainer of final Nibbāna without exertion (asaṅkhāraparinibbāyī); with faculties softer than those, one is an attainer of final Nibbāna with exertion (sasaṅkhāraparinibbāyī); with faculties softer than those, one is one bound upstream, heading to the Akaniṭṭha realm (uddhaṃsoto akaniṭṭhagāmī); with faculties softer than those, one is a once-returner (sakadāgāmī); with faculties softer than those, one is a stream-enterer (sotāpanna); with faculties softer than those, one is a Dhamma-follower (dhammānusārī); with faculties softer than those, one is a faith-follower (saddhānusārī).
Thus, bhikkhus, one who practices in full achieves the full; one who practices in part achieves the partial. The five faculties, bhikkhus, are not barren, I say.
