[905] Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu, having understood as it really is (yathābhūta) the origin and the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to these six faculties (indriya), is liberated through not clinging — this bhikkhu, bhikkhus, is called an arahant, one whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, who has lived the life, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, reached his own goal, utterly destroyed the fetters of existence, one liberated through complete final knowledge.
