[847] "Bhikkhus, there are these five faculties (indriya). What five? The faculty of faith (saddhā), the faculty of energy, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration (samādhi), and the faculty of wisdom (paññā). When, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having understood as it really is the origin and the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to these five faculties, is liberated through non-clinging — this bhikkhu, bhikkhus, is called an arahant, one whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, who has lived the life, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, reached his own true goal, utterly destroyed the fetters of existence, one completely liberated through final knowledge."
