[955] Bhikkhus, just as from the friction and conjunction of two sticks heat is born and fire is produced, and with the separation and laying apart of those very sticks the heat born thereof ceases, it subsides — even so, bhikkhus, in dependence on a contact (phassa) to be experienced as pleasant, the pleasure faculty (sukhindriya) arises. Being pleased, one understands: 'I am pleased.' With the cessation of that very contact to be experienced as pleasant, one understands: 'The corresponding feeling (vedanā) — the pleasure faculty that arose in dependence on the contact to be experienced as pleasant — ceases, it subsides.'
