[978] Bhikkhus, suppose there were a river slanting toward the east, sloping toward the east, inclining toward the east, and in the middle of it an island. There is, bhikkhus, a method (pariyāya) by reference to which that river may be reckoned as just one stream. And there is, bhikkhus, a method by reference to which that river may be reckoned as just two streams.
