[14] A village called "of a single precinct (upacāra)" is a village belonging to a single family and enclosed. Having deposited the robe within the village, one must dwell within the village. If it is unenclosed, one must dwell in the house in which the robe is deposited, or one must not move beyond hand's reach (hatthapāsa).
"Of different precincts" means the village belongs to different families and is enclosed: one must dwell in the house in which the robe is deposited, or in the assembly hall (sabhā), or at the gateway, or one must not move beyond hand's reach. One who is going to the assembly hall, having deposited the robe within hand's reach, must dwell in the assembly hall, or at the gateway, or must not move beyond hand's reach. Having deposited the robe in the assembly hall, one must dwell in the assembly hall, or at the gateway, or one must not move beyond hand's reach. If it is unenclosed, one must dwell in the house in which the robe is deposited, or one must not move beyond hand's reach.
