[141] **"Those medicines that are to be partaken of by sick bhikkhus"** —
**Ghee (sappi)** means: ghee of cows, ghee of goats, or ghee of buffaloes¹ — ghee of those animals whose flesh is allowable.
**Fresh butter (navanīta)** means: fresh butter of those same animals.
**Oil (tela)** means: sesame oil, mustard-seed oil, oil of the madhuka tree, castor oil, or oil from tallow.
**Honey (madhu)** means: honey made by bees.
**Molasses (phāṇita)** means: what is produced from sugarcane.
**"Having received them, they may be used, being stored for seven days at most"** means: they may be used for a maximum of seven days.
**"For one who lets that period elapse, it entails forfeiture"** means: at the arising of dawn on the eighth day it becomes subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya); it must be forfeited to the Saṅgha, or to a group, or to an individual.
"And thus, bhikkhus, it should be forfeited …" — "Venerable sir, this medicine of mine has passed beyond seven days and is subject to forfeiture; I forfeit it to the Saṅgha." … "… should give it back …" … "… should give it back …" … "I give this to the venerable one."
