[178] When a bhikkhu, having seen, speaks a deliberate lie (sampajānamusā), saying, "I did not see," by three modes he incurs an offense of pācittiya: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsely"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsely"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me." By four modes … By five modes … By six modes … By seven modes, when, having seen, he speaks a deliberate lie, saying, "I did not see," he incurs an offense of pācittiya: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsely"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsely"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me"; misrepresenting his view, misrepresenting his conviction, misrepresenting his acceptance, misrepresenting his state of mind.
