[34] "When the robe is finished, by a bhikkhu" means: the bhikkhu's robe (cīvara) has been made, or lost, or destroyed, or burnt, or the expectation of a robe has been cut off.
"When the kaṭhina has been withdrawn" means: it has been withdrawn through one or another of the eight grounds (mātikā), or it has been withdrawn in the interim by the Saṅgha.
"Out-of-season robe-cloth (akālacīvara)" means: when the kaṭhina has not been spread, [cloth] arisen during the eleven months; when the kaṭhina has been spread, [cloth] arisen during the seven months; and also [cloth] given with specific designation even during the [robe] season — this is called out-of-season robe-cloth.
"Should arise" means: it may arise from the Saṅgha, or from a group, or from a relative, or from a friend, or as rag-cloth (paṃsukūla), or by means of one's own property.
