[352] When it is earth and he perceives it as earth, should he dig it or have it dug, break it or have it broken, burn it or have it burnt, there is an offence entailing expiation (āpatti pācittiyassa).
When it is earth and he is in doubt, should he dig it or have it dug, break it or have it broken, burn it or have it burnt, there is an offence of wrong-doing (āpatti dukkaṭassa).
When it is earth and he perceives it as not earth, should he dig it or have it dug, break it or have it broken, burn it or have it burnt, there is no offence (anāpatti).
When it is not earth and he perceives it as earth, there is an offence of wrong-doing.
When it is not earth and he is in doubt, there is an offence of wrong-doing.
When it is not earth and he perceives it as not earth, there is no offence.
