[376] **Whoever** (*yo pana*): whoever, of whatever sort … **Bhikkhu** … : this is the bhikkhu intended in this meaning. **Belonging to the Saṅgha** (*saṅghika*) means: what has been given to the Saṅgha, relinquished to it. **A bed** (*mañca*): there are four kinds of bed: one with the frame inserted into the legs (*masāraka*), one with the frame bound as one with the legs (*bundikābaddha*), one with curved legs like a crab's (*kulirapādaka*), one with detachable legs fastened onto the frame (*āhaccapādaka*). **A bench** (*pīṭha*): there are four kinds of bench: one with the frame inserted into the legs (*masāraka*), one with the frame bound as one with the legs (*bundikābaddha*), one with curved legs like a crab's (*kulirapādaka*), one with detachable legs fastened onto the frame (*āhaccapādaka*). **A mattress** (*bhisi*): there are five kinds of mattress: a mattress of wool, a mattress of bark-fibre, a mattress of cloth, a mattress of grass, a mattress of leaves. **A wicker seat** (*koccha*): one made of bark-fibre, of usīra grass, of muñja grass, or of pabbaja reed, wrapped and bound within. **Having spread it out** (*santharitvā*): having spread it out himself. **Having had it spread out** (*santharāpetvā*): having had another spread it out. If he has one who is unordained spread it out, the responsibility (*palibodha*) is his own. If he has one who is ordained spread it out, the responsibility is the spreader's. **When departing, should neither put it away** means: should not put it away himself. **Nor have it put away**: should not have another put it away. **Or should go without informing anyone** means: without informing a bhikkhu, a novice, or a monastery attendant, for one who goes beyond the distance of a clod's throw of a man of average stature, there is an offence of pācittiya.
