[396] There is no offense (anāpatti): when it is a dwelling without a loft (avehāsakuṭi); when [the loft] is so low as to strike the head¹; when the space below is not in use [as a living area]; when [the upper floor] is boarded over with planks; when a securing pin has been supplied; when, standing upon it, he takes hold of [something] or hangs [something] up; for one who is mad; for the first offender. # ¹ The Burmese edition (M.) reads *sīsasaṃghaṭṭāya*.
