[398] A dwelling called "large" (mahallaka vihāra) is said to be one that has an owner-sponsor.
"Dwelling" (vihāra) means one that is plastered inside, or plastered outside, or plastered both inside and outside.
"Having it built" means: building it himself or causing it to be built.
"As far as the door-frame" means: within a hand's reach (hatthapāsa) around the door-post assembly (piṭṭhisaṅghāṭa).
"For the fixing of the door-bolt" means: for the setting of the door.
"For the finishing of the window-openings" means: for the finishing of the windows — white coloring, black coloring, red-ochre coloring, garland-work, creeper-work, makara-tooth design, the fivefold-strip design (pañcapaṭṭhika).
"Standing where there are no crops, he may supervise the laying of two or three courses of roofing": what is called "crops" (harita) means grain crops (pubbaṇṇa) and pulse crops (aparaṇṇa).
If he supervises while standing on crops, there is an offense of wrong conduct (dukkaṭa).
When roofing by rows: having supervised two rows, he should give the order for the third row and depart.
When roofing by encircling courses: having supervised two courses, he should give the order for the third course and depart.
