[472] "Not ill" means: he is able to depart from that rest-house.
"Ill" means: he is not able to depart from that rest-house.
"Food at a public rest-house (āvasathapiṇḍa)" means: any one of the five foods (bhojana), made available in a hall, in a pavilion, at the root of a tree, or in the open air, not designated for any particular person, as much as is needed.
A bhikkhu who is not ill may eat it once. If, thinking "I shall eat more than that," he accepts it, there is an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). For every mouthful swallowed, there is an offence of expiation (pācittiya).
