[485] There is no offence: when it is an occasion (samaye); when two or three eat together; when, having walked for alms, they gather together and eat; in the case of a regular meal (niccabhatta); a ticket-meal (salākabhatta); a fortnightly meal (pakkhika); a meal on the uposatha day (uposathika); a meal on the day after the uposatha (pāṭipadika); setting aside the five kinds of food, in all [other] cases there is no offence; there is no offence for one who is mad, or for the first offender (ādikammika).
