[538] There is no offense (anāpatti): if, in a large house, he sits without leaving arm's reach (hatthapāsa) of the door-lintel (piṭṭhisaṅghāṭa); if, in a small house, he sits without going beyond the ridge-pole (piṭṭhivaṃsa); if a bhikkhu is present as a second; if both have departed; if both are free from lust; if it is not in a sleeping-room; if he is mad; if he is the first offender.
