[633] When it is a living being, and he perceives it as a living being, and deprives it of life: an offence (āpatti) entailing expiation (pācittiya). When it is a living being, and he is in doubt, and deprives it of life: an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). When it is a living being, and he perceives it as not a living being, and deprives it of life: no offence. When it is not a living being, and he perceives it as a living being: an offence of wrong-doing. When it is not a living being, and he is in doubt: an offence of wrong-doing. When it is not a living being, and he perceives it as not a living being: no offence.
