[637] When it contains living beings, perceiving it as containing living beings, he uses [the water]: an offense (āpatti) of pācittiya. When it contains living beings, being in doubt, he uses it: an offense of dukkaṭa. When it contains living beings, perceiving it as not containing living beings, he uses it: no offense.
When it does not contain living beings, perceiving it as containing living beings: an offense of dukkaṭa. When it does not contain living beings, being in doubt: an offense of dukkaṭa. When it does not contain living beings, perceiving it as not containing living beings: no offense.
