[676] "That novice (samaṇuddesa)" means: the novice who speaks thus.
"By bhikkhus" means: by other bhikkhus. Those who see and those who hear — by them he should be admonished: "Friend novice, do not speak thus; do not misrepresent the Blessed One, for misrepresentation of the Blessed One is not good, and the Blessed One would not speak thus. In many ways, friend novice, obstructive things (antarāyikā dhammā) have been declared by the Blessed One, and they are truly sufficient to obstruct one who indulges in them." He should be admonished a second time; he should be admonished a third time. If he relinquishes it, that is good; if he does not relinquish it, that novice should be addressed by the bhikkhus thus: "From this day forth, friend novice, that Blessed One is not to be claimed by you as your teacher; and that which other novices obtain — sharing sleeping quarters with bhikkhus for two or three nights — even that is not for you. Away with you, wretch! Perish!"
