Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (2) · Vol. 2 · Section 773

[773] "Rains-cloth (vassikasāṭikā)" means: a cloth for the purpose of the four months of the rains season. "When having it made" means: whether making it himself or having it made by another. It is to be made according to the proper measure. Herein this is the measure: in length, six spans of the Sugata-span (sugatavidatthi); in breadth, two and a half. If he makes it or has it made exceeding that measure, in the act of undertaking there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa); upon obtaining it, having cut it down, the offense of expiation (pācittiya) is to be confessed.
