[841] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus opened the mouth when the morsel (kabaḷa) had not yet been brought … "'I will not open the mouth when the morsel has not yet been brought' — thus should the training be undertaken."
The mouth should not be opened when the morsel has not yet been brought. Whatever bhikkhu, out of disrespect (anādariya), opens the mouth when the morsel has not yet been brought, incurs an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: if it is unintentional; if he is unmindful; if he does not know; if he is ill; in emergencies; if he is insane; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
