[840] Origin at Sāvatthī (Sāvatthīnidānaṃ). Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus ate making long mouthfuls. … "I will make the mouthful round" — this is a training to be observed.
A round mouthful should be made. Whichever bhikkhu, out of disrespect, makes a long mouthful, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: if it is unintentional; if he is absent-minded; if he does not know; if he is ill; in the case of solid foods (khajjaka); in the case of fruits large and small (phalāphala); in the case of accompanying delicacies (uttaribhaṅga); in emergencies; if he is mad; if he is the first offender.
The Sakkacca Chapter, the Fourth, is finished.
