[848] Origin at Sāvatthī (Sāvatthīnidānaṃ). Now on that occasion the bhikkhus of the group of six ate scattering rice grains about … "I shall not eat scattering rice grains about": thus the training is to be observed.
One should not eat scattering rice grains about. Whoever, out of disrespect, eats scattering rice grains about, commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense (anāpatti): if it is unintentional; if he is unmindful; if he does not know; if he is ill; if, while throwing away refuse, he throws away a rice grain along with it; in times of danger; if he is insane; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
