[194] Bhikkhus, I do not see even a single other person who practices thus for the harm of many people, for the unhappiness of many people, for the ruin, harm, and suffering (dukkha) of many people, of devas and humans, as does Makkhali, that foolish man (moghapurisa). Just as, bhikkhus, one might set a fish-trap at the mouth of a river for the harm, suffering, calamity, and ruin of many fish, even so, bhikkhus, Makkhali, that foolish man, has arisen in the world as a trap for humans, as it were, for the harm, suffering, calamity, and ruin of many beings.
