[266] Bhikkhus, these two things lead to the confusion and disappearance of the true Dhamma (saddhamma). What two? Words and phrasing (padabyañjana) that are badly set down, and meaning that is badly interpreted. Bhikkhus, when the words and phrasing are badly set down, the meaning too is badly interpreted. These, bhikkhus, are the two things that lead to the confusion and disappearance of the true Dhamma.
Bhikkhus, these two things lead to the endurance, non-confusion, and non-disappearance of the true Dhamma. What two? Words and phrasing that are well set down, and meaning that is well interpreted. Bhikkhus, when the words and phrasing are well set down, the meaning too is well interpreted. These, bhikkhus, are the two things that lead to the endurance, non-confusion, and non-disappearance of the true Dhamma.
