[276] Bhikkhus, a mind (citta) defiled (upakkiliṭṭha) by lust (rāga) is not liberated, and wisdom (paññā) defiled by ignorance is not developed. Thus indeed, bhikkhus, through the fading away (virāga) of lust there is liberation of mind (cetovimutti); through the fading away of ignorance there is liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti). The Bālavagga, the Third Chapter.
