[275] 29. Bhikkhus, these two dhammas partake of true knowledge (vijjābhāgiyā). What two? Serenity (samatha) and insight (vipassanā). When serenity is developed, bhikkhus, what benefit does it bring? The mind (citta) is developed. When the mind is developed, what benefit does it bring? Whatever lust (rāga) there is, that is abandoned. When insight is developed, bhikkhus, what benefit does it bring? Wisdom (paññā) is developed. When wisdom is developed, what benefit does it bring? Whatever ignorance (avijjā) there is, that is abandoned.
