[307] "Bhikkhus, I shall teach you the dwelling together of the bad (asantasannivāsa) and the dwelling together of the good (santasannivāsa). Listen to it and attend carefully; I shall speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this:
"And how, bhikkhus, is there dwelling together of the bad, and how do the bad dwell together? Here, bhikkhus, an elder bhikkhu thinks thus: 'Let not an elder admonish me; let not a middling bhikkhu admonish me; let not a junior bhikkhu admonish me. I would not admonish an elder; I would not admonish a middling bhikkhu; I would not admonish a junior bhikkhu. If an elder should admonish me, he would admonish me wishing me harm, not wishing me good; I would say "No!" to him, I would even trouble him, and even seeing [my fault], I would not make amends. If a middling bhikkhu should admonish me … If a junior bhikkhu should admonish me, he would admonish me wishing me harm, not wishing me good; I would say "No!" to him, I would even trouble him, and even seeing [my fault], I would not make amends.' A middling bhikkhu, too, thinks thus: … A junior bhikkhu, too, thinks thus: 'Let not an elder admonish me; let not a middling bhikkhu admonish me; let not a junior bhikkhu admonish me. I would not admonish an elder; I would not admonish a middling bhikkhu; I would not admonish a junior bhikkhu.
