[429] Bhikkhus, these two states lead to the decline of a bhikkhu who is a learner (sekha). What two? Anger (kodha) and grudge-bearing (upanāha) … detraction (makkha) and domineering (palāsa) … envy (issā) and meanness (macchariya) … deceit (māyā) and hypocrisy (sāṭheyya) … shamelessness (ahirika) and lack of moral dread (anottappa). These, bhikkhus, are the two states that lead to the decline of a bhikkhu who is a learner.
