[450] 11. Bhikkhus, a renowned bhikkhu possessed of three qualities is practising for the harm of many people, for the unhappiness of many people, for the ruin, harm, and suffering (dukkha) of many people, of devas and human beings. Which three? He encourages them in unsuitable bodily action (kāyakamma), he encourages them in unsuitable verbal action (vacīkamma), he encourages them in unsuitable dhammas. Possessed of these three qualities, bhikkhus, a renowned bhikkhu is practising for the harm of many people, for the unhappiness of many people, for the ruin, harm, and suffering of many people, of devas and human beings.
Bhikkhus, a renowned bhikkhu possessed of three qualities is practising for the welfare of many people, for the happiness of many people, for the good, welfare, and happiness of many people, of devas and human beings. Which three? He encourages them in suitable bodily action, he encourages them in suitable verbal action, he encourages them in suitable dhammas. Possessed of these three qualities, bhikkhus, a renowned bhikkhu is practising for the welfare of many people, for the happiness of many people, for the good, welfare, and happiness of many people, of devas and human beings.
