[451] Bhikkhus, there are these three places to be remembered for as long as he lives by a head-anointed khattiya king. What three? Bhikkhus, the region where the head-anointed khattiya king was born — this, bhikkhus, is the first place to be remembered for as long as he lives by a head-anointed khattiya king.
Again, bhikkhus, the region where the khattiya king was head-anointed — this, bhikkhus, is the second place to be remembered for as long as he lives by a head-anointed khattiya king.
Again, bhikkhus, the region where the head-anointed khattiya king, having thoroughly conquered in battle, victorious in battle, occupied that very battle-front — this, bhikkhus, is the third place to be remembered for as long as he lives by a head-anointed khattiya king.
These, bhikkhus, are the three places to be remembered for as long as he lives by a head-anointed khattiya king.
In just the same way, bhikkhus, there are these three places to be remembered for as long as he lives by a bhikkhu. What three? Bhikkhus, the region where a bhikkhu shaved off his hair and beard, put on the ochre robes, and went forth from the home life into homelessness — this, bhikkhus, is the first place to be remembered for as long as he lives by a bhikkhu.
Again, bhikkhus, the region where a bhikkhu understands as it really is (yathābhūta), "This is suffering (dukkha)"; understands as it really is, "This is the origin (samudaya) of suffering"; understands as it really is, "This is the cessation (nirodha) of suffering"; understands as it really is, "This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering" — this, bhikkhus, is the second place to be remembered for as long as he lives by a bhikkhu.
Again, bhikkhus, the region where a bhikkhu, through the destruction of the taints (āsava), having realized for himself with direct knowledge (abhiññā), in this very life, the taintless liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti), entered upon it and dwelt therein — this, bhikkhus, is the third place to be remembered for as long as he lives by a bhikkhu.
These, bhikkhus, are the three places to be remembered for as long as he lives by a bhikkhu.
