[456] Bhikkhus, these three things lead to one's own affliction, lead to the affliction of others, and lead to the affliction of both. What three? Bodily misconduct (kāyaduccarita), verbal misconduct (vacīduccarita), and mental misconduct (manoduccarita). These, bhikkhus, are the three things that lead to one's own affliction, lead to the affliction of others, and lead to the affliction of both.
Bhikkhus, these three things lead neither to one's own affliction, nor to the affliction of others, nor to the affliction of both. What three? Bodily good conduct (kāyasucarita), verbal good conduct (vacīsucarita), and mental good conduct (manosucarita).
