[559] Bhikkhus, there are these three failures (vipatti). What three? Failure in action (kammanta-vipatti), failure in livelihood (ājīva-vipatti), and failure in view (diṭṭhi-vipatti). And what, bhikkhus, is failure in action? Here, bhikkhus, someone is one who destroys living beings … is one who engages in frivolous talk. This, bhikkhus, is called failure in action. And what, bhikkhus, is failure in livelihood? Here, bhikkhus, someone is of wrong livelihood (micchā-ājīva); he makes his living by wrong livelihood. This, bhikkhus, is called failure in livelihood. And what, bhikkhus, is failure in view? Here, bhikkhus, someone is of wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi), of distorted vision: 'There is nothing given, nothing offered … who, having realized this world and the other world for themselves by direct knowledge (abhiññā), make them known.' This, bhikkhus, is called failure in view. These, bhikkhus, are the three failures.

Accomplishment in action (kammanta-sampadā), accomplishment in livelihood (ājīva-sampadā), and accomplishment in view (diṭṭhi-sampadā). And what, bhikkhus, is accomplishment in action?
