[201] "Bhikkhus, I will teach you the untrue person (asappurisa) and the person more untrue than the untrue person; the true person (sappurisa) and the person more true than the true person. Listen to it, attend carefully; I will speak."
"Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this:
"And what, bhikkhus, is the untrue person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is one who destroys life, one who takes what is not given, one who engages in sexual misconduct, one who speaks falsely, one who indulges in liquor, wine, and intoxicants, which are a basis for heedlessness. This, bhikkhus, is called the untrue person.
"And what, bhikkhus, is the person more untrue than the untrue person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person himself destroys life and also encourages others in the destruction of life; himself takes what is not given and also encourages others in taking what is not given; himself engages in sexual misconduct and also encourages others in sexual misconduct; himself speaks falsely and also encourages others in false speech; himself indulges in liquor, wine, and intoxicants, which are a basis for heedlessness, and also encourages others in indulging in liquor, wine, and intoxicants, which are a basis for heedlessness. This, bhikkhus, is called the person more untrue than the untrue person.
"And what, bhikkhus, is the true person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is one who abstains from the destruction of life, abstains from taking what is not given, abstains from sexual misconduct, abstains from false speech, abstains from liquor, wine, and intoxicants, which are a basis for heedlessness. This, bhikkhus, is called the true person.
"And what, bhikkhus, is the person more true than the true person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person himself abstains from the destruction of life and also encourages others in abstinence from the destruction of life; himself abstains from taking what is not given and also encourages others in abstinence from taking what is not given; himself abstains from sexual misconduct and also encourages others in abstinence from sexual misconduct; himself abstains from false speech and also encourages others in abstinence from false speech; himself abstains from liquor, wine, and intoxicants, which are a basis for heedlessness, and also encourages others in abstinence from liquor, wine, and intoxicants, which are a basis for heedlessness. This, bhikkhus, is called the person more true than the true person."
