[202] "Bhikkhus, I will teach you the untrue person (asappurisa) and the one more untrue than the untrue person, the true person (sappurisa) and the one more true than the true person. Listen to it and attend closely; I will speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this:
"And what, bhikkhus, is the untrue person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is without faith (saddhā), is without moral shame (hiri), is without moral dread (ottappa), is of little learning, is lazy, is of muddled mindfulness, and is of poor wisdom. This person, bhikkhus, is called the untrue person.
"And what, bhikkhus, is the one more untrue than the untrue person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is himself without faith and encourages others in lack of faith; is himself without moral shame and encourages others in shamelessness; is himself without moral dread and encourages others in lack of moral dread; is himself of little learning and encourages others in little learning; is himself lazy and encourages others in laziness; is himself of muddled mindfulness and encourages others in muddled mindfulness; is himself of poor wisdom and encourages others in poor wisdom. This person, bhikkhus, is called the one more untrue than the untrue person.
"And what, bhikkhus, is the true person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person has faith, has moral shame, has moral dread, is of great learning, has energy (vīriya) aroused, is mindful, and is wise. This person, bhikkhus, is called the true person.
"And what, bhikkhus, is the one more true than the true person? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is himself accomplished in faith and encourages others in the accomplishment of faith; himself has moral shame and encourages others in moral shame; himself has moral dread and encourages others in moral dread; is himself of great learning and encourages others in great learning; himself has energy aroused and encourages others in the arousing of energy; himself has mindfulness established and encourages others in the establishment of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna); is himself accomplished in wisdom and encourages others in the accomplishment of wisdom. This person, bhikkhus, is called the one more true than the true person."
