[31] Bhikkhus, there are these four wheels (cakka). When devas and human beings possess them, the fourfold wheel rolls on for them; and devas and human beings who possess them attain, before long, greatness and abundance (vepulla) in wealth. What are the four? Living in a suitable region (paṭirūpadesavāsa), association with good people (sappurisūpassaya), setting oneself in the right course (attasammāpaṇidhi), and merit done in the past (pubbe katapuññatā). These, bhikkhus, are the four wheels. When devas and human beings possess them, the fourfold wheel rolls on for them; and devas and human beings who possess them attain, before long, greatness and abundance in wealth.
Let a person dwell in a suitable region,
let him make friends with noble ones,
endowed with right self-direction,
a person who has done merit in the past —
grain, wealth, renown, reputation,
and happiness accrue to him.
