[43] Bhikkhus, these four kinds of persons are found existing in the world. What four? One who values anger (kodha), not the true Dhamma (saddhamma); one who values denigration (makkha), not the true Dhamma; one who values gain (lābha), not the true Dhamma; one who values honor (sakkāra), not the true Dhamma. These, bhikkhus, are the four kinds of persons found existing in the world.
Bhikkhus, these four kinds of persons are found existing in the world. What four? One who values the true Dhamma, not anger; one who values the true Dhamma, not denigration; one who values the true Dhamma, not gain; one who values the true Dhamma, not honor. These, bhikkhus, are the four kinds of persons found existing in the world.
Bhikkhus who value anger and denigration,
who hold gain and honor in high regard —
they do not grow in the Dhamma
taught by the Fully Self-Enlightened One.
But those who have dwelt, and who dwell,
valuing the true Dhamma —
they indeed grow in the Dhamma
taught by the Fully Self-Enlightened One.
