[44] Bhikkhus, there are these four things contrary to the true Dhamma (asaddhammā). What four? Giving weight to anger, not giving weight to the true Dhamma (saddhamma); giving weight to detraction (makkha), not giving weight to the true Dhamma; giving weight to gain, not giving weight to the true Dhamma; giving weight to honor (sakkāra), not giving weight to the true Dhamma. These, bhikkhus, are the four things contrary to the true Dhamma. Bhikkhus, there are these four things that accord with the true Dhamma. What four? Giving weight to the true Dhamma, not giving weight to anger; giving weight to the true Dhamma, not giving weight to detraction; giving weight to the true Dhamma, not giving weight to gain; giving weight to the true Dhamma, not giving weight to honor. These, bhikkhus, are the four things that accord with the true Dhamma. A bhikkhu who gives weight to anger and detraction, who reveres gain and honor, does not grow in the true Dhamma, like a seed sown in a bad field. But those who have dwelt and who dwell giving weight to the true Dhamma — they indeed grow in the Dhamma, as medicinal herbs grow following the moisture.
