[71] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who possesses four qualities is one practicing the unimpeachable path (apaṇṇakapaṭipadā), and the basis (yoni) has been laid by him for the destruction of the taints (āsava). Which four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is virtuous (sīlavā), is of great learning (bahussuta), is of aroused energy (āraddhavīriya), and is wise (paññavā). Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who possesses these four qualities is one practicing the unimpeachable path, and the basis has been laid by him for the destruction of the taints.
