[80] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Kosambī, in Ghosita's Park. Then the Venerable Ānanda approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down at one side. Sitting at one side, the Venerable Ānanda said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, what is the cause, what is the condition, why women neither sit in an assembly, nor undertake a business, nor go to Kamboja?"
"Ānanda, women are prone to anger; Ānanda, women are envious; Ānanda, women are miserly; Ānanda, women are of poor wisdom. This, Ānanda, is the cause, this is the condition, why women neither sit in an assembly, nor undertake a business, nor go to Kamboja."
