[1] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus." "Venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, there are these five powers of a learner (sekhabalāni). What five? The power of faith (saddhābala), the power of moral shame (hiribala), the power of moral dread (ottappabala), the power of energy (vīriyabala), and the power of wisdom (paññābala). These, bhikkhus, are the five powers of a learner. Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train thus: 'We shall be possessed of the power of faith, a learner's power; we shall be possessed of the power of moral shame, a learner's power; we shall be possessed of the power of moral dread, a learner's power; we shall be possessed of the power of energy, a learner's power; we shall be possessed of the power of wisdom, a learner's power.' Thus indeed, bhikkhus, should you train."
