[21] Bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu who is without respect, without deference, and not of harmonious conduct toward his fellows in the holy life will fulfil the dhamma of proper conduct (ābhisamācārika dhamma) — this is not possible. That without having fulfilled the dhamma of proper conduct he will fulfil the dhamma of a learner (sekha dhamma) — this is not possible. That without having fulfilled the dhamma of a learner he will fulfil the virtues (sīlāni) — this is not possible. That without having fulfilled the virtues he will fulfil Right View (sammādiṭṭhi) — this is not possible. That without having fulfilled Right View he will fulfil Right Concentration (sammāsamādhi) — this is not possible.
Bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu who is respectful, deferential, and of harmonious conduct toward his fellows in the holy life will fulfil the dhamma of proper conduct — this is possible. That having fulfilled the dhamma of proper conduct he will fulfil the dhamma of a learner — this is possible. That having fulfilled the dhamma of a learner he will fulfil the virtues — this is possible. That having fulfilled the virtues he will fulfil Right View — this is possible. That having fulfilled Right View he will fulfil Right Concentration — this is possible.
