[213] "Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers (ādīnava) for an immoral person (dussīla) through failure in virtue (sīlavipatti). What five? Here, bhikkhus, an immoral person, one who has failed in virtue, on account of heedlessness incurs great loss of wealth. This, bhikkhus, is the first danger for an immoral person through failure in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, a bad report concerning an immoral person, one who has failed in virtue, is spread abroad. This, bhikkhus, is the second danger for an immoral person through failure in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, whatever assembly an immoral person, one who has failed in virtue, approaches — whether an assembly of khattiyas, an assembly of brahmins, an assembly of householders, or an assembly of ascetics — he approaches it without confidence, abashed. This, bhikkhus, is the third danger for an immoral person through failure in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, an immoral person, one who has failed in virtue, dies confused. This, bhikkhus, is the fourth danger for an immoral person through failure in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, an immoral person, one who has failed in virtue, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a state of loss, a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell. This, bhikkhus, is the fifth danger for an immoral person through failure in virtue. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers for an immoral person through failure in virtue.
"Bhikkhus, there are these five benefits (ānisaṃsa) for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue (sīlasampadā). What five? Here, bhikkhus, a virtuous person, one accomplished in virtue, on account of heedfulness acquires a great mass of wealth. This, bhikkhus, is the first benefit for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, a good report concerning a virtuous person, one accomplished in virtue, is spread abroad. This, bhikkhus, is the second benefit for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, whatever assembly a virtuous person, one accomplished in virtue, approaches — whether an assembly of khattiyas, an assembly of brahmins, an assembly of householders, or an assembly of ascetics — he approaches it with confidence, unabashed. This, bhikkhus, is the third benefit for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, a virtuous person, one accomplished in virtue, dies unconfused. This, bhikkhus, is the fourth benefit for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue. Again, bhikkhus, a virtuous person, one accomplished in virtue, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world. This, bhikkhus, is the fifth benefit for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue. These, bhikkhus, are the five benefits for a virtuous person through accomplishment in virtue."
