[212] Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contentious talk, a creator of disciplinary issues (adhikaraṇa) in the Saṅgha, five dangers (ādīnavā) may be expected for him. What five? He does not achieve what he has not yet achieved; he falls away from what he has achieved; a bad report of his repute spreads abroad; he dies confused; and with the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in a state of loss (apāya), a bad destination, the lower realm, hell. Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contentious talk, a creator of disciplinary issues in the Saṅgha, these five dangers may be expected for him.
